RIFT is a new
MMORPG from Trion Worlds, where thousands of players adventure together to save

RIFT supports English,
French, and German.
Which methods of payment are available?
Trion Worlds
accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and PayPal. Game Time
Cards are available at major retailers.
Is RIFT available to purchase as a digital
download?
Yes. RIFT is
available at the Trion Store as well as from other partners. You can visit the
Product Page to make your purchase or find a local retailer.
Gameplay
You can choose
from many different races to adventure as in the world of Telara, ranging from
the fierce Bahmi to the bold Mathosians.
What classes can I play?
You begin the
game by choosing one of four callings (Warrior, Cleric, Rogue, or Mage) and
then build your perfect class using the Ascended Soul system.
Is there Player vs. Player combat in RIFT?
RIFT offers many
forms and fashions of Player vs. Player (PvP) combat.
Does RIFT offer crafting and/or trade skills?
RIFT features a
robust and comprehensive crafting and gathering system.
Are there guilds in RIFT?
Absolutely. RIFT
offers a comprehensive guild system that is accessible to player organizations
both large and small.
Does RIFT have factions?
Yes. The world of
Telara is divided politically between two major factions: the Guardians and the
Defiant. Both factions seek to save the world from planar destruction, but in
very different ways. The factions are engaged in open conflict, and battle
frequently, so no cross-faction groups or guilds can exist in RIFT.
Character Transfer
Of course! The
rule set of your current shard will not prevent you from moving to a shard of a
different type. So PvP, RP, PvE, or RPPvP to your heart’s content – Just
remember, you’re subject to the rules of your new home! (For example,
non-consensual PvP on PvP shards and stricter naming policies on RP shards.)
What about my stuff?
Everything except
for items left in your mailbox, at the Auction House, and in your Guild Bank
will be transferred with your character.
Will these transfers always be free for
everyone?
For the
foreseeable future – yes! We feel this feature will add a unique way to play
RIFT and look forward to seeing how it goes!
Why are only some shards available for
transfer?
We want the shard
you select to provide the best experience possible. It is important that there
remains a balance between Guardian and Defiant players to ensure that available
shards do not become overpopulated or unbalanced. For this reason you will only
be able to move to specific shards we’ve selected to accept new transfers.
Please note the shards available for transfer may change over time.
Will I be able to change my character's faction
(from Defiant to Guardian for example) when I transfer, or will I be able to
transfer my character to another active account?
Not at this time.
While these options are something we might look into in the future, they are
currently not available.
Paypal
PayPal is an
alternative payment method that is commonly used in place of credit cards. RIFT
players can now link their existing PayPal account with their Trion accounts
and use it as a payment method. PayPal can be used to purchase Standard and
Collector’s Editions on the Trion Account Management Website as well as
recurring RIFT Subscriptions.
How do I change my subscription from PayPal to
a credit card or Game Time Card?
You can select
the option to “Change Subscription” from the “Manage game” page in your Trion
Account. Select the Subscription Plan of your choice and then select the
payment method you would like to use. (If you have not yet added PayPal as a
payment method, you can select the “Add new payment method” link and return to
the Change Subscriptions process after adding PayPal.) After selecting both
your preferred Subscription Plan and your payment method, select the option to
“Update Subscription” and you are done.
I tried to make a RIFT purchase with my PayPal
account and it failed, what do I do?
There are several
reasons why a PayPal account payment will fail to process. Your PayPal account
must be “Verified;” this means that your payment must have access to an
“instant form of payment” in order to make a purchase. You can use PayPal under
the following scenarios:
- Your PayPal
account has the proper amount of funds, and you have linked your bank
account to your PayPal account. (If at any time you remove your bank
account from your PayPal account you will not be able to make future
purchases with this payment method, until you add your bank account back
to your PayPal account.)
- Your PayPal
account has sufficient funds, and you have linked your credit card to your
PayPal account.
- Your PayPal
account does not have sufficient funds, but you have linked your credit
card to your PayPal account. This is still considered and instant
payment by PayPal, so you can use this PayPal account for RIFT purchases.
How do I use PayPal to pay for RIFT?
You can ONLY
use PayPal to pay for RIFT if your PayPal account is set up in one of the
following ways:
Q. I have enough
money to purchase the product in my PayPal account, and I have a linked Bank
Account on PayPal. Can I purchase RIFT products?
A. YES, you can
purchase RIFT products if your PayPal account has the enough money to pay for
the RIFT product you are purchasing, and you have linked your bank account
to the PayPal account.
(IMPORTANT NOTE:
If at any time you remove your bank account from your PayPal account you
will not be able to make future purchases with this payment method. You also
cannot use this payment method if your PayPal account does not have enough
money to pay for the RIFT product you are attempting to purchase. For the purchase
to complete, you will need to transfer funds from your Bank Account to your
PayPal account through the PayPal transfer service in your PayPal account.)
Q. I have enough
money to purchase the product in my PayPal account, and I have a linked Credit/Debit
Card. Can I purchase RIFT products?
A. YES, you can
purchase RIFT products if your PayPal account has enough money to pay for the
RIFT product you are purchasing, and you have linked your Credit/Debit Card to
the PayPal account.
(IMPORTANT NOTE:
If your PayPal balance is not enough to cover the RIFT purchase, the purchase
will still complete and the remainder charged directly to your Credit Card.)
Q. I don’t have
any money in my PayPal account, but I have a linked bank account and a linked
Credit/Debit Card. Can I purchase RIFT products?
A. YES, you can
purchase RIFT products if your PayPal account has no balance, but you have both
a linked bank account and a linked Credit/Debit Card.
(IMPORTANT NOTE:
The bank account will always be charged first, if the purchase fails it will
then charge your linked credit card.)
Q. I don’t have
enough money in my PayPal account, but I have a linked credit card. Can I
purchase RIFT products?
A. YES, you can
purchase RIFT products if your PayPal account has no balance, but you have a
linked credit card.
(IMPORTANT NOTE:
Your credit card will be charged directly if you do not have a PayPal balance
to cover your purchase.)
Is PayPal available to RIFT players worldwide?
Yes, PayPal can
be used for purchases anywhere in the world.
Will there be tax on PayPal transactions?
Yes, all
applicable taxes apply to PayPal transactions.
I made a purchase with my PayPal payment
method and now I want a refund. Do I contact PayPal or Trion?
Please contact
Trion Customer Support if you purchased RIFT from the Trion
website, and we will be happy to assist you.
I have never used PayPal. How do I set up an
account?
Trion cannot
assist in making a PayPal account. To create your PayPal account, please visit
the PayPal website.
I have questions about my PayPal account
balance, or adding/transferring funds from my bank account to my PayPal
account.
Trion cannot
assist in any direct PayPal actions such as adding, transferring, or checking
available funds to your PayPal account. You will need to contact PayPal support
staff directly for support.
RIFT Free Trial
Yes! Anyone who
has not purchased RIFT or previously played a RIFT Free Trial or Allies of the
Ascended event can play the RIFT 7-day Free Trial. Before you play the RIFT
Free Trial, make sure you don’t have a friend looking for recruits. You will
not be eligible for recruitment through the Ascend-a-Friend program once you
play the RIFT Free Trial.
I've already played the RIFT Free Trial. Can I
play the Free Trial again?
Each Trion Worlds
account is only eligible for one RIFT Free Trial regardless of where/when it is
offered, including the trials offered through the Ascend-a-Friend program,
iGames LAN centers, and Allies of the Ascended events.
Are there any limitations to the RIFT Free
Trial?
Yes. Certain
features and functions are limited during the RIFT Free Trial. The list of
limitations can be found here.
Ascend-a-Friend
Does RIFT have a program to refer friends?
Yes! All RIFT
subscribers can recruit their friends to collect awesome rewards with the
Ascend-a-Friend referral program! To be eligible as a recruit, you must not own
RIFT or have played a RIFT Free Trial or Allies of the Ascended event on the
invited account. To participate in the Ascend-a-Friend program, you must accept
an Ascend-a-Friend invite or sign up for the Ascend-a-Friend program through a
friend's Unique Recruitment Link.
I've recruited a friend. When/how do I get my
reward?
Rewards are sent
automatically via in-game mail to all characters on your associated account
when your eligible friend purchases RIFT.
I tried RIFT during the Allies of the Ascended
event. Am I eligible to be recruited through the Ascend-a-Friend program?
No. Any account
that participated in the Allies of the Ascended events is not eligible to be
recruited.
Authenticator
The RIFT Mobile
Authenticator is an application available for many iOS and Android devices.
Once linked to your RIFT account, your Mobile Authenticator can be commanded to
generate a unique key that is required to log in to RIFT. The Mobile
Authenticator provides two-factor authentication (the first factor being your
password), making it much harder for insidious individuals to gain unauthorized
access to your account, even if your computer has been compromised. It is an
entirely optional (but highly recommended!) security measure that offers users
invaluable extra protection.
How do I get the RIFT Mobile Authenticator?
The RIFT Mobile
Authenticator is available for iOS devices through iTunes and for Android
powered devices through the Android Marketplace.
How much does the RIFT Mobile Authenticator
cost?
The RIFT Mobile
Authenticator is free in all formats!
How do I set up the RIFT Mobile Authenticator?
Follow the simple
steps found here.
Is mobile airtime required for use?
The RIFT Mobile
Authenticator only requires use of the internet during setup.
Will the RIFT Mobile Authenticator work on my
iPod touch / iPad?
Yes! Such devices
must have OS version 3.0 or higher.
How do I remove the RIFT Mobile Authenticator?
Contact Customer Support to have the Mobile Authenticator
removed from your account before you remove it from your mobile device.
What if I remove the application from my
mobile device before removing it from my RIFT account?
If you remove the
Mobile Authenticator application while it is still linked, you will be unable
to log in to your RIFT account. Please contact Trion Worlds Customer Support for assistance.
I lost my mobile device after activating the
RIFT Mobile Authenticator. What should I do?
Please contact Trion Worlds Customer Support for assistance.
Can I protect more than one RIFT account?
A single mobile
device can only be linked to a single RIFT account.
What devices does RIFT Mobile Authenticator
work with?
Trion Worlds
offers Android (v1.6 or higher) and iOS (v3.0 or higher) versions of the
application. We hope to release additional versions for other platforms in the
future.
Will a Trion Worlds representative ever ask
for my Authenticator information?
Yes. A Trion
Worlds customer service representative may ask for your authenticator code if
you are having issues with the RIFT Mobile Authenticator. A customer service
representative will never ask for your password.
Is it safe to use an authenticator other than
an official RIFT Mobile Authenticator?
Trion Worlds does
not recommend using any other authenticators for RIFT.
What else can I do to protect my account?
Securing your
password is one of the best steps you can take to keep your account safe!
Always use a unique and challenging password for your game account that
includes letters, numbers, and symbols. Make sure your Trion Worlds account
password is a completely unique password you’ve never used before. Avoid
personal information and real words (in any language), since they are much
easier to crack. Never share your information with anyone, and pay close
attention to websites you visit. Never download any software from a source you
don’t trust – in many cases, those are keyloggers! For further protection,
regularly update your password.

Can I order a retail Standard Edition or
retail Collector’s Edition box directly from Trion?
No, Trion sells
only the digital versions.
Can I play RIFT on both European and North
American servers?
Yes. We want you
to be able to play with family and friends, no matter where in the world they
live.
Where are the servers located?
North American
servers are located in Dallas, Texas and European servers are in Amsterdam.
